What to use after greaseless?
I was wondering what do you do or use after running a razor through the buffers ending with 600 grit greaseless compound. I have been hand sanding from 1000 grit to 2000 grit and then polish on the wheels. What is the secret to getting a mirror finish? Does anybody make a higher than 600 grit greaseless compound? Or is it just a lot of elbow grease? Thanks.

Thanked: 1184I found a sisal wheel with black polishing compound works after greaseless to get to the rest of the buffing compounds. I am sure you will hear other ways but that's what I found quickest from 400. 3 more polishing compounds and then 2 pastes to get my mirrors.
Took lots of experimenting but I have my power polishing down to 6 wheels.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

How does a cotton sewn wheel work with the black compound?
All the 4" Sisal wheels are backordered at Caswell. My son is a Drill Instructor in the United States Marine Corps at Parris Island, SC

Thanked: 3215I use the sewn 4 in cotton wheels with greased compounds after 600 greaseless all the time. The black and green sticks bring out the shine.
Here is the Caswell Plating buffing tutorial, the wheel Chart, about mid way down may be helpful. It is on the website but hard to find on the site.
You have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the first page, it is the first link on the Information section.
How to Buff and Polish.

Ordered four more 4" sewn cotton wheels and a stick of black and green polishing compound.
That should about cover it for most of my work I think. I may need some white compound but we will see.My son is a Drill Instructor in the United States Marine Corps at Parris Island, SC

I have the full range right through to blue. Works well and you will notice improvement at each step. I finish on a small cotton mop with luxor orange just to shine it up.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
