I think your Puma Gold is better with OUT the gold. Since, the gold (from what I have experienced) will cause rusting with time (this might be why the original owner removed it)
As for removing the inlay...your timing could not be better!
We have been discussing this:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/showthread.php?t=12577
Or, check out the 'inlay' thread under the 'restoration' folder (this folder)
I've suggested using a hairdryer, but it seems that hot/boiling water works better (if you do not mind destroying the original scales)....
HEY! Now that I think of it... I have a crappy old set of Puma scales at home!!! Send me a PM, and we can arrange me sending you the inlay (if you want to try and put it on these new scales).
Sheesh! Why did I not think of that at first?!
(So many razors, so little time)

Thx C utz for this noble offer. Maybe I will use them. But first I will try it, to remove the inlays from my scales. Learning by doing
If I miss, I will send you a PM

Hey Buddel,
Hold off trying to remove that inlay! The scales you took off the original blade look to be in great condition. If you remove the inlay, it will ruin the scales!! You could either use that set for another blade, or sell them (I can recall a number of times that people have been looking for Puma scales).
The scales I have are in poor condition, but the inay is intact. Let me ruin a bad set of scales!! If I have another set that has an inlay that you can 'play with' I'll send them along with the Puma inaly...
I'd hate to see a good set of scales get ruined
