Puma Gold
This is one of my first projects. One of the worldwide best Straight Razors, ever made - a Puma Gold. The shaving with this Razor is very soft. I know less than a handfull Straight Razors, that have this Quality.
The handels are made from Ficus wood (a tree in the tropial woods, that choke other trees). Very hard and heavy, good to polish and very hard to find.

Sweet looking razor you got there. I've been eyeing the Puma line, just may have to add one to the list

Looks great!
I noticed that much, if not all, of the gold platting is removed from the tang/spine area... Which is good! The Puma Golds I owned would rust out on the gold platting, and I found it to be very frustrating.... (note the 'owned')
Great work on those scales!!
(You could have taken the puma emblem off the old scales and inlayed them in the new one's....)
Great work!

Thanked: 9Nice job
Wow Chris - transfer of the inlay seems pretty hard to do?
I have also de-golded one of mine but the other is pretty much intact because I might sell it... Have not noticed any issues so far. Nice razors, no question about it.
Cheers

That brings to mind a guy who was a member on the yahoo site who started doing custom scales. I was lucky enough to have him do a Dorko 6/8s I have in Elephant ivory and then on his own he inlayed turquoise all around the outside of the scales and transfered the Dorko nameplate and inlayed it onto the scales. That guy did fantastic work but then he disappeared with quite a few peoples razors undone. I wonder what happened to him.

Do you mean Micheal Thomson? (from the original Yahoo SRP?)
I had him make me a set of ambonya burl scales for my Puma, using the original scales (which were broken) as a template, and the Puma emblem as an inlay in the same location (that's the one I learned the hair dryer trick on). He also hollowed out a place for the grip to fit, in between the scales.
It is a simple diamond inlay for the emblem, and then sealed over with a clear coat...

(Sorry to hijack this thread...I did not make the scales, only pinned them together! Not like this great set on the Puma Gold!!!)

The problems with the gold plating are not really important for me. Its still a great razor and I bought him in this conditions of the blade.
The transfer of the inlay is a thing, I wanted to do ever - but I dont know how to remove them from the old handle. Also I ever was afraid, that I will perhaps destroy the new scales.
I think, I must read the thread, where you explain, how to remove the inlay once again with my dictionary, to unterstand it really. And than I wil it testing on a piece of old wood first
