    I'm not shure what it is but there's a crack in the pivot and some kind of black gunk is seeping through and highlighting the crack.

    I'm pretty sure the black gunk is Fe3O4 (magnetite). It is a very common form of iron oxide, and is black. it's the same stuff that gives a beautiful patina on the old carbon steel blades, and often found and visible on the pivot of white scaled razors. It is not "active rust" (Fe2O3).
    Dude, leave it alone. It's character, like the small lines around Annie Lennox and Sigourney Weaver eyes. I call it "grace".
