Thanked: 18Thanks Whizbang,
Wish I could post a picture. Don't know how to do that. I am really computer illiterate. I put a rather heavy hand to attempting to forge an edge on a 440 water stone. As I mentioned, as I ground away I noted, under a 60x loupe little pit marks here and there on the edge. This telegraphed the thought that I would have to grind away so much of the blade that getting an edge started would be rather difficult. Guess my perspective is that it is not really worth continuing. I was hoping for an idea I guess, maybe a confirmation. I am seriously considering putting it to a rolling water hone (electric, a slow rolling stone which is constantly in water. As it rotates on its axis the lower half is under water drawing it up to the top.)
Thank you for your rapid response. Much appreciated.

Thanked: 18The spine was severely worn away by a very heavy hand, ergo to achieve the proper edge I estimated the amount of tape necessary to come back within some parameter of the edge. I have noted that there are several members who have implied the use of electrical tape, plus I had to bread knife the edge. Maybe I should have used more tape?
