Next vacuum pot project might be something like a shave bowl. Have that beauty hunk of burl Shaun sent me and honestly, been afraid to cut into it to start making stuff, hehe.
Wonder if it needs to be stabilized as a matter of course?
Does all burled lumber need to be soaked or just the super punky pieces?

In order for me to pass judgement on that burl I think I need to check the rest of it that is still in the shed. I'm having a bit of a time remembering which piece I sent you. Maple or birch or something like that? I think it would never hurt to stabilize it before turning something. Pics? Size? Give me some clues and I will check what it was. I have a bunch of side pieces from different burls in the crawl spac under the kitchen should you run short of bits.
Canada post reports that the knot should be in your possession as of this afternoon.

Some part of that will be fine but there are other sections the will need stabilized for turning. I think you are likely going to see the best result from roughing it out a bit and then stabilizing the pieces. It would be a big vacuum chamber that you could run the whole piece in. I cut thin pieces off the piece of that that I used and made an ern box. It was laminated to yellow cedar for stability.

Ended up slightly offset, but not enough to warrant redoing in its entirety as it is really just a palm rest when shifting.
Should go WAY faster now, hehehe.
