Default Question on finish for zebra bone scales

    Good day!

I'm finishing up a custom build with zebra bone scales, and I'm thinking of using Cyanoacrylate as the finish. This is my first time working with this material, and I was wondering if there is anything in particular I should be looking out for, especially with consideration of the finish I'm thinking of using. The bone has been treated and dyed.

    Anything I should watch for?

    Thanks for any help!

All the bone I've seen were just polished. Never seen them finished before.
Most guys sand them to a fine grt. then buff them. FYI.

    SOME PICS PLEASE

Agreed - I would not try to seal them with anything, just give a fine polish.

I really like bone as a scale material. To be honest I never finish them with anything. Some of the more porous looking scales I have waxed, one side only. I use camel quite a bit, and it never gets polished. I am not familiar with working with Zebra. I would like to see what you are doing. Basically I sand to 2K wet and then buff with a fine fit mystery compound that I only use on scales.

Thank you all, very much! Opted for no finish, as you all suggested, sanded to 1,200 then buffed progressively from black emery compound and finishing with white jewelers rouge. I have the actual photo shoot with my real camera set for tomorrow, but here are some cell phone pics I took this afternoon when I finished pinning.

Very nice. I was thinking the bone would have been a different color. And lined in brass. Nice touch. Ive thought about lining with brass but im afraid of the blade closing on it and nicking the blade.
    Nice job.

I tend to avoid brass scale liners because the added weight tends to throw the balance of the razor off. Likewise with big, clunky scales that you sometimes see.

I and some of the others here thought the bone would be whitish. The black is surprising.

A high gloss CA might have been a good choice. In any event, yours are great looking.
