    Default Picked up a Sander

I've been tossing my belt sander on a table top upside-down to help in making scales. I've restored 4 razors now and got one more ready to sand. Today I got the Harbor Freight flyer in the mail and they had this sander at more than 50% off. I hate buying powered tools from them as they don't last but I figured that if I don't use it very often...

And as you can see China still hasn't figured out what level is as if you look at the table for the disc sander, its a bit unlevel. I think I could regrind the bar that holds it but I'd need to wait till I buy a grinder. Thats next on the list of tools to buy.

Anyways, This will help in the scale making. I will still use a coping saw to cut them out as I don't have any power tools to that ether at this time. Pretty soon I'll have to build a work shop on the back of the garage if this keeps up. ha.

yep, she hasn't seen this one yet. I'll look again at the table but I only seen a way to pivot it down at the front edge so you can do angles. The belt sander part does go vertical and anywhere in between. Not sure why its needed but..At $59.95 I just couldn't pass it up. Of course I had to buy 40 bucks worth of sanding belts and discs. This hobby that should save me money in shaving is not even close to saving me money. But its a lot of fun! I guess if I had bought one used razor, Had it honed, Bought one soap and A.S. and one brush I might have saved money in the first year. But whats the fun in that.

BTW, Here is the next set of scales I started today. Too cold to do more than cut them out roughly...
Bronze/Orange. I think they are going to look very cool. The wife picked out the color but I liked it too.

They will be my first try with something other than horn and wood.
Not sure about what the wedge will be made of. I kept a piece of the same stuff just encase but I was thinking something black would look nice. Although I dont have anything black to use at the moment.

I have had one of these for a while. It only gets occasional use, so it should last.

I could only find 60-150 grit belts locally, but a supplier on Amazon had belts all the way up to 1000 grit. The finer grits will be a big help in smoothing scales without a lot of handwork.

Ill say best of luck with this tool. I hope you got a good one. Mine worked as it should until the belt was wore. I put a brand new one on and can not get it to track now. Tried all kinds of different things and still nothing. Their tools are so hit and miss so as I say I do hope yours is a good one.

I have a skill band saw table top kind that I love.
With my belt sander I pulled the wheels and trued them that failed. I put a slight crown on the adjustable wheel no luck. Then tried a reverse crown with tape and it still would not track. So I pretty much have a disc sander now. But it was cheap and I got some good from it. I know better when I buy from them so it is what it is
