Great job Jerry, I've been taking notes and following your journey.
It looks like you got this figured out.

Pinned and now for some honing. If I get the time as the wife's to-do list is growing by the minute and I got one day before its back to the grind stone. No pun intended!

    Nice job! Great looking razors

I have been pondering about buffing lately, since the dremel and autosol have their limits in what they can do. But haven't really started doing my research on the matter... Can anyone point me to a good thread to start reading about it? Thanks!

Be careful with the buffing wheels as it is EASY to round over what used to be nice crisp edges.

Scales look good too. If you want the blade to sit higher...sand the wedge a bit more. This will close them together thus making blade higher.

Not sure if it's the pics..but your wedge end pin looks too close to the end...? A good reference is to use the same distance you have for the pivot pin. Makes things look symmetrical.

    GOOD job though!
When I drilled for the wedge-end pin I wasn't thinking along the idea of the same distance as the front pin. I was thinking being closer to the end that it would help hold the wedge end of the scales together better because of the bowing affect that is happening at the other end. Now that I think about it, most all the razors I own seem to have the pin closer to the inside edge of the wedge and not the outside edge like what I did.

Thanks for pointing this out. Gives me something to correct on my next set of scales. I haven't been at this very long as this was the fifth set of scales I've made. I'm now getting the thicknesses of the material much more uniform and have learned how to make a wedge correctly so I'm getting closer all the time. BTW, I did put the wedge out and sand it a bit more last night before bed. Got the spine sitting how I want it now. AND... I found out about the buffer taking off more metal than you want. When I started buffing on the Palmer it had a sharp point but there was a nick in the from edge above the point. After I got done with the 400grit I noticed the point wasn't as sharp and the nick was gone. Oh well, I said. I bought it for practicing with and now I know it will take that thin steal away without even knowing it if your not careful.

Well, I don't know if I got it figured out but I'm getting closer all the time. Every time I make another set of scales I learn more. There is a lot more to it than a person thinks when it comes to doing it correctly. Thanks Dieseld!

You're doing great if this is your 5th set.
There is always something to learn each time you do them.
    Nice job
