Buffing is great!
I started with these razors.
The Palmer.
Cant find the pic of the Torrey before I started.
And Imperial Razor
Got out the buffer and all my compounds with new wheels. I marked all the wheels and raked them then used scissors to trim off the strings. What a mess that was. ha. I used the glue stuff on the new wheels to help the compound to stick. Loaded up the wheels two at a time and went to town. I took pics of the progression of the Palmer only.
Before:
240 Greaseless:
400 Greaseless:
600 Greaseless:
Used some Green Cr0x Compound next but don't know where the pic went.
White Greased:
And this is all 3 blades after a few steps of the progression plus the Blue, including the scales I made with only the use of my new belt sander. I wet them for the pic as I have not got to any finishing stages of sanding with them yet:
I'm very happy about the stuff I bought. This sure made restoring and making scales a lot easier. Cant wait to do more. After starting on the Palmer I found that it was full of pitting and wasn't going to come out very nice. I bought it just to use with the buffer for my first try. Glad I did as it helped me to understand what I was doing.
I still need to get these blades put in scales but I'm very happy with what I learned and about how much easier it was then hand sanding and polishing. Took 1/6 to 1/8 of the time doing it this way and the outcome was much better. Thank you all for helping me to figure out what I wanted to buy and making some sound choices. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanks for noticing me Addison.
I'm just a guy that likes to do everything I can do and do it the best I can. Well, Until I'm so wore-out I cant move any more, then I talk on the radio as it don't take any energy. ha. And thank you to Aerdvaark. I did a few by hand but decided it was time to up my game. Now if my wallet can recover I'll get some more tools and razors and continue this adventure. Well, I got to get these finished first. It's just Sharpening, right?

I got to take a brake. Been at this stuff so much today I didn't even shave. He, He. I'll have plenty to mow down tomorrow.
BTW, Here is the finished scales and the Torrey Mocked Up...
Maybe I'll get it honed up tomorrow morning after pinning and go for the SOTD.
Hoping that when I finish it I'll get the spine to stand up a touch higher when closed. Its close but not just what I want yet.Last edited by Gasman; 03-04-2017 at 03:53 AM.

Looks pretty good Gasman.
Be careful with the buffing wheels as it is EASY to round over what used to be nice crisp edges.
Scales look good too. If you want the blade to sit higher...sand the wedge a bit more. This will close them together thus making blade higher.
Not sure if it's the pics..but your wedge end pin looks too close to the end...? A good reference is to use the same distance you have for the pivot pin. Makes things look symmetrical.
GOOD job though!
