It depend on several things I guess. What kind of razor is it, what needs to be done to it?
If it's a very special razor, like a family heirloom, think twice before doing anything to it.
Sometimes in order to correct certain issues you need to unpin, sometimes not. You have to weigh the benefits of unpinning against having non-original pins forever after.
