Default How a blank becomes a razor

This video has been posted before. I enjoy watching the Master Grinder working with tooling that is still in use after a century or more.
I hope you will enjoy the 10 or so minutes it uses!

Awes, where's the rest? I wanted to see the honing too. That looked like what's next.

Thanks for posting the vid Richard. I hadn't seen that one before. Love the way the guy did it all by eye, no gloves, wonder how many he can turn out in a day ? Craftsmanship, but I'd get mighty tired of showing up for that job.

Richard thank you very much for posting that link, I'd seen it quite awhile back and was just impressed with the craftsmanship then as I am now.

I hope that I'm not hijacking your thread with this link. It's too has been posted before; It shows how the blanks are made and how a different craftsman does the grinding on different equipment. It also shows how a 'Factory Shave Ready Edge' is accomplished.

I had seen the Dovo vid a long time ago. In both of them it occurred to me that the grinders are not only not wearing gloves, but they aren't wearing respirators either. Was it silicosis that was known as grinder's disease way back in the cutlery industry ?

I could do that for the rest of my life and be happy. Thanks for the videos guys. I really dug the polishing part. That was back in the day when men were men and the sheep were scared.

I won't argue the respirator end but to me in many ways gloves are more dangerous than not wearing them.

The feel and dexterity that you lose doesn't make up for any advantage.
