    I don’t build new razors, but on restores, I hone last, after it is scaled and pinned.

    It is easier to hone and strop a scaled razor and it is dangerous to work on a honed razor. I dull the edge of every razor I work on by running a 400 grit diamond file on the edge, for safety. Haven’t cut myself,” bad” in years.

    That and you run the risk of ruining your edge while pinning. The edge is very fragile.
