Which explains why the hone wear is so flat at the moment. Garsh, it looks like there's quite a bit of hone wear flowing up into the tang.....On both sides. IMO, and if it were mine, I'm not sure I'd spend any time with this one.

I don't see wear on the tang so much as the presence of a step on the tang right above the heel to locate the missing spine.
Still. I am afraid that you are correct in your estimation, Andrew.
