Thread: Little help.

Good advice. I cleaned up a razor some and kept it dry. When I got it out a week or two later I noticed rust popping up again on one side of the blade. The scale on the rusty side was also discolored so I shouldn't have been surprised.

A man gave me a box of razors that we're all in horrible shape because one or more started gassing off and caused the others to rust. It was a carbon steel massacre.

This has been a good lesson for me, because all this time I thought when men were talking about celluloid rot, it was something happening to the celluloid "scales"....not the blade.

It’s actually both. The problem is that the scales might be off-gassing even though they don’t look too bad - maybe some brownish areas. The damage to the blades might be more extensive than the observable damage to the scales themselves. And the off-gassing can cause damage to begin in other razors stored in the same box or drawer. That’s why it’s important to quarantine the known affected razors before they can spread the rot to other razors in your collection.

This has turned into a very interesting base for identifying and handling issues thanks guys for the imput to fix our issues.

Ok so here we don’t have any of the polish brands recommended. Is there a particular chemical make up, thing to avoid, or indicator it’s ok to look for when picking a metal polish?
