    Question open question

The latest set of scales were going to have a different blade in them ,an
1850`s W&B with a quite noticeable taper to the shank ,when pinning the pivot the blade would lift up out of the scales the tighter the peening the more the blade would rise ,hence the Torrey blade. I have struck this once before Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so what is the cause and more importantly how do you over come it. I have my suspicions but I would like a definitive answer.
Correct me if I`m wrong ,but placing the wedge in reversed may possibly work however I`m not sure
    Kind regards Peter

If I understand you, you want to make the scales match the taper of the shank by bowing it slightly. A tapered wedge would be useful, a slightly longer third pin to hold the scales apart at a good angle and then shaving off or tapering the inside of the shoulder point on the scales should all work.

I've had this happen before. Sometimes the middle spacer can bow the scales out a little to compensate where the wide part of the taper presses between the scales. Outside of that you could try to rotor out the inside of the scales where the tang hits (similar to the Puma scale design for the razors with the big grips on the tang).

Other than the middle spacer trick, and maybe a wider end spacer, I have not had much success with this issue. But then again, I was a little lucky with the degree of the tapper in the tang on those razors....

Good luck, and let us know if you come up with a trick!
