Homemade Razor Protection.
My go to is Mineral Oil however it is a bit light and not great for my purposes in the workshop and long term it evaporates.
At the other end of the spectrum is Renaissance Wax but i consider it only for long term storage.
Recently i made my own formula of Beeswax & Olive Oil.
One part Beeswax to eight parts Olive Oil with a minute in the microwave. It sets hard but soft to the touch.
I'm really impressed so far..
Give it a try if you like

Thanked: 4827That’s funny because that is pretty close to my homemade pomade.

I have 18 lbs of beeswax within 1 foot of me at the moment.
I think I might have enough to give this a try.
Similar works well also for seasoning cast iron pans.

Your eggs won't stick in your pan!
As an aside I raise bees so I am a little biased with anything that uses bees wax.

Thanked: 44There's a much softer version of the Renaissance wax that is used for polishing smoking pipes called Halcyon wax that I've found very good.

If you use neetsfoot oil instead of olive it make a good leather dressing too! (I wouldn't eat it though).
On second thought, I've heard of people using olive oil on leather so I guess that would be another use.

Thanked: 4827I’ve actually switched to grape seed oil because it lasts much longer at room temperature. I did have a very old jar of pomade start to smell a little off. I also often add essential oils as it is cooling, but completely redundant for razor protection, and likely leather dressing as well.

I hear some muzzle loader shooters use those two ingredients to lube their patches but use a different ratio.........
