I have removed copper oxides with hydrogen peroxide in the past. There is footage of rust removal with H2O2 on youtube.
Disclaimer: I never tried rust removal with H2O2.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

I’ve used walnut shells, charge it with some brass polish or similar for cleaning and polishing brass and run it for 8 hours. I would tape off the etch and deal with that by hand. I’ve polished a few blades with some deeper etching and have had no adverse affects. No appreciable rounding vs hand sanding.
This blade was cleaned initially by just scraping the rust off with a single edge razor then tossed in some charged walnut media over night. You can still see all the putting but should give you a fairly good idea of what to expect. It won’t make an ok surface better but for cleaning or doing a final polish after hand sanding through the grits it’s an avenue to explore. I haven’t tried corn media but I would think that would be ok too.
