Salem Marcos & Bros Etching
Really would like to save this etching. Since my last etched restore ended up with no etch left I did a search and cam up with a lot of info on using a tumbler.
I have a tumbler and some walnut media. But I don't know if that is the way to go on this blade. is there a better way to go about it and get the blade cleaned up well?
Thanks for all your help.

that's a good question, i've always been afraid of doing much with etching for the reason you mentioned. hopefully someone has experience with a tumbler.

Thanked: 3228I think I would tape off the etching and clean/polish around it by hand.

I'm with Bob.
Or better yet.....do nothing at all.! I don't see anything all that bad. Leave the patina, put on a pair of new shoes, hone and enjoyMike

Im with Mike. Many razors are in more sad looking shape than that one. But if you just have too, tape it off and polish by hand. I still say its fine.
It's just Sharpening, right?

A bit of metal polish on a rag will freshen up that etching..

Thanked: 4828I’ve used my tumbler with walnut quite a bit. I expect all the media is the same. However with interactions with other member I’m left feeling that my media is way less aggressive than others. Mine basically does a good cleaning, while others claim it rounds out their lines. I guess you could experiment with your media on something you don’t care about. I’m in the camp of always be cautious. The tape for cleaning is a solid system and I’ve done it with no negative consequences.

I have had a junk Pakistani razor in the walnut for the last 6 hours. I just had a look and it has had no effect on the steel good or bad. I will see what it looks like tomorrow at this time.
I remember @PaulFLUS sharing some links about gun bluing being used to refresh a etching. going to go read up on the links he shared.Last edited by Audels1; 08-06-2021 at 11:04 PM.

Thanked: 4828My media work slow enough that it takes three days for a good cleaning. I like it for stuff I’m not going to sand or do more than a quick hand polish.
