Restoration resources
I am trying to get some textbook/CD/DVD help re restoration in general. I have emailed Bill Ellis re his CD but no reply. Haven't got Lynns DVD yet but waiting for it - understand it not to go into too much of that detail. Is there a resource on this forum re materials to use (polish/tools/techinques etc) for blade restoration and pin removal etc. I have two or three little projects ended up here from eBay that will help me to prevent damaging another couple of good razors. I just need some info re how to go about it. Initially I wish to remove pins and clean blades up. One of the razors has a broken scale and I would like to find someone who can replace it also? Maybe I should have posted this in the newbie forum - perhaps a link to some resources there would be good? Only wish I had someone round the corner to show me!
thanks
Stephen

John,
I'd be patient and wait for Bill to chime in. Give it another week and if he doesn't get back to you, pm me. I have one that I wouldn't mind parting with if it means helping someone out, as I've already juiced it for all the knowledge I need.

You can order Billy's CD with this link. http://www.billysblades.com/Straight%20Razor%20Book.htm It will help you tremendously. There is also a help doc in the library about making scales. This will give you something to ponder while your waiting.

A year ago I made for some german members of a straight razor forum a little photo story.

Maybe it would help you, until Bills CD arrive. But I must say, the text is in german, and in some points I have changed my work until that time.

I got the gist of it - nice group of photos. Looks like a Dremel purchase is something to consider - but it does look all very do-able. I will await the Bill Ellis CD either directly or from the offer made earlier. It's nice to plan carefully - thinking twice and cutting once.
thanks

I did as Kenrup suggested and just ordered the

Good luck.

Everyone's really chimed in here. I also agree, Bill's cd is well worth the wait. After that, a lot is trial and error, but the foundation you will have for restoring will be there.
