Three restores
Two gentlemen from B&B asked me to restore some blades for them and post some pictures of the process. Since B&B doesn't deal so much with restoration and such, I decided this would be the best place to post these. The process I use is not that much unlike that which many of the restorers here use...
The blades are from my bank of ebay grabs, the scales are walnut and bird's eye maple from blanks I ripped and planed myself. I have tons of blanks left if anyone wants some.
As we speak, the scales are undergoing a second coat of gloss polyurethane. The blades have not yet been restored.
Pictured: The three blades next to the new scale blanks, The blanks after cutout, the blanks after shaping.
More pictures to follow as work progresses.Last edited by floppyshoes; 03-03-2008 at 06:10 PM.

I won't stop you from sending me Bird's eye maple if you must! Really, I won't mind!
Nice picture tutorial!

Hey Dan,
I would really appreciate some of that walnut if you could spare any. I'm working on an old W&B myself. It will be my first restoration. Please let me know details. Thanks for helping us newbies out!
here is the before picture. The horn is broken and missing a pin.
Thanks again,
Dan

I'm out of free scale blanks now. The lucky few who get them have a PM.
If anyone is willing to pay for them, I'll sell either the walnut or bird's eye maple for $3 a set plus shipping. A set being 2 x 1.5"x1/8"x5.5".

Yesterday and today's progress.
This is after 2 coats of polyurethane. 2 more to go. The maple was stained with 2 coats of Royal Mahogany.

More work completed on this project.
The finish was completed on the scales. I love the way the walnut turned out.
Here are the semi assembled razors. You can see that two of the three are too long. I goofed on the pivot holes, those two should have been further from the end. I guess I should have screwed my head on tighter.
Still to do:
- finishing the spacers (sanding, paper removal and torch glazing)
- Working my magic on the blades
- Final assembly
- Honing
