Default Homemade Chromium Oxide Polishing Paste

I was inspired by reading about using chromium oxide grit as a polishing compound a while ago, so I can't take credit for the idea, but what follows is my own recipie:

1-2 tablespoons of chromium oxide grit
1 mid sized squeeze of sunscreen

With a felt pad and dremel this stuff eats through 600 grit sandpaper scratches like nothing. It works so well that you can take those scratches down to a frosty mirror polish in about 5-10 maybe 15 minutes per side of the blade.
Move onto Maas and a quick rub by hand with Maas and wow.

I makes me wonder if it is necessary to progress beyond 600 grit sand paper.

It comes in a bar format, kind of like a gritty crayon. I grated it on that fine side of a grater that no one ever uses. It leaves curls of the stuff, but by the time you mix it and grind with it the curls break down so it doesn't much matter.

    Update:

Hand lotion doesn't work as a base. It dries out too quickly and gunks up.

I have been using the liquid from Handamerican with the Dremel and had good results. It makes the blade shinier but doesn't cut as well as the MAAS. I use the CrO last.

That kind of confirms an idea I've had tossing around in the back of my mind. I think that the chromium oxide grit from Lee Valley tools has other coarser stuff in it. They say primarily CrO, but the other stuff might account for my results versus yours in polishing.

I'll see what everyone thinks in the the honing section.

I got mine quite a while ago. I should have posted on the swiftness I received it.

    Update:

Olive oil is too thin. It flies everywhere and stains you clothes green .
