This whole process looks pretty interesting. I've missed some posts in the middle, but just to make a comment on people staying away from ammonia based media. Take a look at this: Nitridization - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nitriding steel is usually done to harden the steel much more, and is done in a hot oven with ammonia gas that breaks down and allows nitrogen to penetrate the surface.

So in other words, I'm not sure that ammonia would have any effect on steel at room temperatures, and if it does it would only serve to harden the steel more.

On another note, once I get some razors to restore this looks like a much better option than doing everything by hand or dremel.
