Newbie needs help....
I have a bit of a problem here. After I watched Lynn's video, I decided I too, could do some minor restoration work. I was polishing my Peaso 5/8 spike point with a Dremel, and I evidently got a little too close to the edge. There is now a little crack in the metal just above the spike point about 1/8 of an inch from the tip.
I don't have a camera or I would post pics.....but my real question is....Who would be willing to help me out with this? I don't need new scales, and I don't think I'd need a whole lot of the edge taken off...just at the edge. I assume the spike point could be rounded off and all would be well with the world.
I'll pay for the restoration work and honing. Thanks in advance.

Hey Dave,
Do you have a 220 / 1000 Norton or access to sandpaper? If so, you can use electrical tape on the spine and hone out the crack then remove the tape, reset the bevel and hone. I did the same thing on my Frederick Reynolds humpback the other day - man was I pissed! I took a chunk out near the heel. I taped it and went to work on the 220 Norton concentrating on the heel. Within the hour, I had removed the chip and went back to setting the bevel and honing. What do you say?

For starters, is it a chip or a crack? If it's an actual crack, that part of the blade would have to get ground off. If it's just a chip, some circular honing on 1000 grit sandpaper can fix it. Next time you use a Dremel, make sure it's rotating away from the edge.

Thanks guys...it is actually a crack.
Since I am rather new to this, I am sort of afraid. This razor belonged to my grandfather.....I'd rather have an experienced restorer handle this. I think that the spike point could be removed, and it would be okay.

Dave,
I agree with you it would be best to have some experienced handle this one especially if it has sentimental value. There are many experienced folks here who could help.
