    Default Wostenholm Pipe Razor

I just recieved this from ebite and frankly I'm kinda amazed.
Although it looks like someone went a little crazy on the blade, the toe does come up and it looks to be thinned out. The scales are in great shape and there's a small amount of rust, most of it appears to be tarnish.
Can anyone id theses scales. I think they are horn but I'm not 100% sure.
I want to leave this intact (hopefully) so the big question is can this blade be saved and how to clean the scales. Ive heard acetone for celluloid but wouldnt that kill horn?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

With a little love and a lot of time that should be a fine razor! As for the scales, they are most likely horn. The blade looks as if it has a slight frown. That may be problematic, but not insurmountable!

Thats what I thought, I laid a straight edge against the blade and the toe curves up but the rest is flat. Although its not completely parallel to the spine its very close.

I've got one just like that. Scales are almost certainly horn, unless they have been replaced along the way.

Since there is no evidence that these have been replaced horn it is.
Now anyone have any ideas on cleaning horn scales?
I've searched but haven't found anything on the site yet about it.
    Thanks
