How about a perminant "Look What I Made" Forum
Alright guys... I am cross-posting this to try and get some covereage for tonight (3/23) so please don't shoot me
Alex and I were talking today about how nice it would be to have a dedicated area where custom razor makers and restorers could showcase their work semi-permantly.
The current problem is that when people post custom work either in the Restore forum or BST at best they are hard to find and at worst they get lost.
The idea would be to create a forum (or sub-forum) where each craftsman could have their own thread where they can post their work. That way when someone chooses to have a custom razor or restore or custom scales done its much easier to see the work done by each individual and pick somone who's work you like.
Obviously this could be extended to other razor related custom work (like Boxes and the like). I also don't think this is a terribly uncommon practice, but all actuall selling would still be restricted to the BST forum and "in progress" to the Restoration. This would be for completed, display only pieces. (Maybe a "Before" shot would be allowed for reference)
Maybe call it "The Gallery"? Maybe as a sub forum of "Show & Tell"?
Please, let me know what you all think!Last edited by oSPANNERo; 03-23-2008 at 07:00 PM.

Obviously, I think it's a good idea. I just don't know how each person could have their own sub gallery. It would be great, but how and who regulates it? i.e. if someone does a one-time restore and creates a thread for themselves, then never posts again, it takes up space.
Just trying to problem solve a little

Well... the way my vision works is that each artisan would have a thread inside "The Gallery". If someone creates a thread for a one time resto... thats fine, no different than a single post in the Restoration forum. You would have to have a moderator, no different than any other forum.
The main goal would be to find all of someones work in one thread with no extranious information. IE "Who would I rather have do custom scales, Alex or Joe" and then simply go look in their individual threads to see which suits the taste rather than having to search all over the site.

Sounds like a good idea. I suggest you start searching for all the pics you want in each restorers "sticky" and then we'll discuss.
Appreciate you volunteering for this.

Anyway you guys want to do it. Just don't pic all the good pics and leave out the bad pics.
If you say "Here are Joe's threads" that would work, later I'll have a sticky built and then merge all the threads up.
I'll probably ask an Admin to make a sub forum but the mechanics of it will probably be left up to someone much more adept than me.

I thought there was a Show & Tell forum under the "Mall" section with the new format?
I would love to see a sub-forum (under resto maybe?) to showcase home-grown and resto projects from the folks here! I say that hoping to post there in the coming weeks! Finally got the last of the stuff I needed for some new scales!

just a differing view... perhaps we could just use existing under utilized areas... such as the "gallery" where you can upload and manage your own picture files, that already exists... and then maybe even the "classified" section for those members whose only contributions to the site are for sale posts in b/s/t
Be just and fear not.
