Thanked: 0W.R. Case & Son(s) - Copper KING
On Sunday, my mother gave me this W.R. Case & Son(s) "Copper KING" that belonged to my grandfather (b.1900 d.1979):
A couple of pre-restoration observations:- I cannot tell if there is a 's' and the end of 'son', or not. I really will have to wait until I clean it up to tell. (Early razors were stamped 'son'. Later razors were stamped 'sons'.) Thanks to MAAS, I do see the word 'sons'.
- I can see what appears to be 'copper wash' in the shoulder and pivot pin areas. I suspect that it may actually be the remains of tarnished gold wash, since copper would have oxidized to a milky green color. However, it is branded as 'Copper KING'.
- The 'e' in 'Copper' does not have a middle bar, so it looks like a 'c'.
- I cannot see any trace of brand etching on the blade.
- The toe of the razor is not a round point. I believe I've seen this shape referred to as an 'Irish point'.
(I plan to join the 'Case Collective' when I get this restored.)
I expect to give this to my 13 year old son when he is ready to shave with, and appreciate, a straight razor. (How many can say that they shave with their great-grandfather's razor?)
