Thanked: 8Pitting and Rust
So I was wondering at what point do you no longer try to get the blade perfectly smooth and just grind out the rust to make it clean and useable. I will post some pictures later tonight after I get off work. I am debating having a pro restore it, but not sure.

Thanked: 8I can not find my camera cord to save my life, so here are some crappy web cam shots. I think it is a full hollow ground, but not sure.

There was a hand sanding how to thread here recently, you should try the search. Good luck with the project.

Thanked: 735From the looks of it, using some 400 or 600 dgrit should take care of that rust. At that level grit you won't remove excessive amounts of metal.
Welcome to the world of blade restoration!
