I'd hope even though most of us have slipped (me included), that most of us don't slip that badly. I know I haven't.

Cut proof fish cleaning gloves are inexpensive, adequately form fitting and a must when using machinery (buffing wheels, etc) but also when handling razors in any significant degree during hand restoration work.

Your pics remind me that I should get another tetanus shot. I think my last one was over ten years ago.

    Chris,

very smart advise and mostly overlooked! They should make this a sticky

Adults should get their tetanus shot every 10 years.

Very true, I have a pair of gloves that I got from work that are designed to protect against glass, sharp metal and razor blades. If I can find out where they purchased them from I will pass on the info

    Default Go To The Doctor

If you cut all the way to the bone, you should go to the ER or see a physician.

There are all kinds of tendons in the finger you could have cut, and you won't know until it is completely healed and doesn't work right anymore.

If they get to it quickly, like within a few days, they can repair cut tendons and when it heals it will be as good as new.

I have a friend who cut the other side of his finger and didn't go to the dr. He was able to bend the finger just fine right after the cut, so he thought no damage had happened.

He was completely wrong. after the cut healed, about 3 weeks later, he could bend his finger but could not bend it all the way down.

HIS GRIP WAS PERMANENTLY WEAKENED. He went to the doctor about 6 weeks after the accident when he realized he had a problem, and there was not much they could do for him.

You may not have damaged anything. But you should go to the doctor anyway.

    That's sound advice.

I almost did exactly that last week. Just finished drying the blade and noticed my fingers were in the wrong place, and relying on the friction of a new pivot to keep the blade in place. I don't think I'll do that again. Shouldn't have to lose a finger to learn a lesson.

I appreciate the concern, but I was just being a little melodramatic, it wasn't to the bone

    Default No problem

It was just meant as informational. It's up to you if you don't think you need medical care. Good luck with that!
