Thanked: 0Question about restoration.
I have a Dovo Bismark that i got a few years back when i attemtped to str8 shave .I gave up since my face got torn up.Just recently i found this site .But the Dovo hasnt been treated well. It needs to TLC to get it back to shaving form.I dont have the tools to do it myself or the time for that matter with 2 small children always in tow .Was wondering if there is anyone that can restore it for me if it isnt too badly damaged? And how much would it cost? For new scales maybe as well?

Thanked: 0Picture
Here is a picture of the Str8.Sorry if it isnt detailed enough it was the best picture i could get at the time .There isnt much rust on the blade .More like a stain. The worst of it is on either side of the pivot and it just feels like surface rust .

You could use dental floss, pipe cleaners or small folded up sand paperto get in and around the pivot, depending on wether or not that is goldwash(on the tang) or glare I see in the pic. A better pic/close up of the affected area would be good. so we could see the actual problem. Damn nice razor BTW, looks like a good shaver.

Looks as though it's seem some 'interesting' honing. There are some odd score marks along the spine which suggest it may not have been hone correctly.
From the picture there does not appear to be that much of an issue anywhere else. BUT, it's difficult to assess this without having the razor in hand to see.
Your razor may just need to be honed and a light polishing......

Thanked: 13245That would be tuff!!!
Looking at that makes me say again, Hmmmmmm tape is a good thing...
My first question would be, can you feel those scratches with your finger nail????
Second would be, is that Goldwash on the tang???
If you can't feel the scratches, there is a slim, very slim chance, I could take those out with out losing the gold on the blade... In fact I would bet that Chris/the Topher could do even better than I could with a re-polish...
If you wanted to redo the goldwash??? on the tang then AaronX would be the man to talk to.....
Good luck

Thanked: 0When I decided to try Str8 razor shaving originally I didnt have anyone to show me how to do it .Didnt have anyone to show me how to correctly hone a blade. When I did finally put blade to face all i managed to do was tear my face up.That was several years ago.Recently I was told about this forum .And have been reading it ever since and found that i was doing alot of things wrong .So i have decided to try it again.Hopefully this time my experience will be much more pleasant .Because now I have access to a wealth of information .

Thanked: 0Gold wash
I think what you are seeing as glare is the gold wash .Unfortunately when i went to wipe it down after retrieving it from its resting place for many years most of the wash on the spine and part of the tang came off .Honestly not worried about it . As long at the rust is gone and is well honed then i will be happy.
