    I don't recomend oil on the pins, too much will mix with the epoxy and mess with the curing time. Just make sure the pins are smooth and shiny so there is nothing for the epoxy to take hold... i assure you, the pins will twist out easily with a pair of pliers and leave a nice clean hole. If you prefer to use oil (in case your pins are not smooth and shiny) use as little as possible.

    I drill by hand too, I make them slightly larger than 1/16th. If i don't get the holes dead center the larger size hole will allow me to wiggle the blade to center before the final few blows to tighten.

    I did my 1st epoxy finish last weekend so I am by no means an expert.
    I did 4 pairs, all of them pre-drilled. I just poured the epoxy, waited 24 hours and re-drilled (w/o a drill press). It was really easy, and they all lined up perfectly.
    That was just my experience, obviously YMMV.
