Has anyone tried toothpaste as a polish? It works to restore scratched cds and polish pearly whites will it work on metal?

I've used it. Toothpaste works well as a final polisher after you've removed the tarnish with metal polish.

I haven't tried it on metal, but I don't think it would work.
The grit in toothpaste is calcium carbonate which is softer than steel, especially hardened steel.
Maas gets things shiny enough for me.
