Thanked: 151Second Attempt at Refurbishing
This is a GEBR Lang solingen razor i bought at a yard sale for $25. The scales were warped plastic and there was some pitting on the blade near the edge. I bought this razor back when I thought I knew about restoring and tried to call it shave ready when there wasn't even a bevel! I have learned a lot since then and tried a second time. THere are still some pits, but I did not do a lot of heavy sanding because I wanted to preserve the etching. THe scales are Zebrawoood from blanks provided by Floppy Shoes. I put a walnut stain/urethane combo from Minwax then came back with Minwax urethane. Take a look and offer comments. I honed it with my norton and it delievers a gret shave. I am still waiting on my CHinese 12K I ordered so if it arrives before it sells I will hone further. But it shaves smooth as it is. Take a look and let me know the thoughts. I am always looking to improve.

Is that an etching? I see shadows in the lettering - it appears to be a raised design on the blade
Looks cool!Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

Thanked: 151Actually it is raised but, I didnt want to sand for fear of sanding it down, so I only sanded along the bottom with 1000 and 2000 grit paper. it improved it some, but it still is not perfect. I was just hoping for improvement.
Thanks

Hey trey, are you using two washers on those pins near the peened ends? I like the look of these pins.

Thanked: 151Yes, all I did was take some of my spacer washers that I use on the pivot and put it behind the small top washer. I should have been doing this all along, but I just wasn't paying attention. They give the pins a larger look without me having to buy special pins. They were fairly easy to put in that way too.
Thanks

Trey– I'd suggest you work on your blade finishes some more. From the pics this one looks blotchy and the scratch marks don't look uniform (whichever way you sand you want all end scratches to be in the same pattern from end to end or top to bottom, etc. not overlapping curves or anything). Just takes practice and more time. Rushing to just 'get it done' will never help it. Not saying you didn't but take your time.
