My local Walmart does not carry MAAS, they carry Mothers , which seems like a decent metal polish.

Also brass rod can be found at some of the Ace or True Value stores they will have a Koss metal display there... You can get liner brass and tubing there too...
Ace was on my list to go to but the nearest one to me was closed by the time I got around to it. After that I was a bit tired of checking everywhere so I haven't gone back. I'm not sure of any True Value hardware stores in my area but I do know of some in places I'll be traveling to next week. I can always peruse around while out of town. Thanks.

I just went to my local Ace, they have a hammer that could be used for peening pins. They also had a decent selection of polishing compounds for wheels.

Auto stores have lots of polishes. They'll at least have mothers, which is a good polish, as others have said.

Its unlikely that you'll find anything remotely specialized at big box stores like Home depot, every inch of their space has been studied to sell the most stuff to the most people as quickly as possible.
