I'm not a restorer but the only solution I can imagine is regrinding the blade and doing away with the crack. So wouldn't it depend on the location ?
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I've ground out the cracked area & seen several others do it, but that's not a proper repair.
I can't see how the steel could be fused back without destroying it. I remember a fella soldered the blade back onto the tang on here. I kept expecting a post about the horrendous injury he sustained when it fell off, but he seemed confident it had worked!

What about welding? I have successfully welded some pretty thin metal before, but a full hollow blade is thinner than anything I've ever tried to work with. A thick enough wedge with the right touch might work in the hands of an extremely good welder and maybe a TIG machine. If you were to do that, I suppose the blade would have to be heat treated all over again and the weld cleaned up via grinder. Sounds like more work than its worth, but it seems possible (though not very easy at all). I'd scrap a blade before I tried all that, but how does that sound to the rest of you? I'm certainly no metal expert.

If you're getting it hard enough to weld, you're completely ruining the temper. You would then need to clean the weld, re heat treat and reshape/polish (If there're enough metal left).
