    Default sandpaper grit combinations...

i was always curious on what other people did when it came to increasing grit in sandpaper.

usually i get what ever pits out i have to with 80 (alum oxide) then go:
    150 (alum oxide)
    320 (wet-dry, emery cloth back)
600 (wet-dry stuff, emery cloth back)
1000 (wet-dry stuff, emery cloth back)
2000 (wet dry, emery cloth back)

*before i advance to the next grit i use 1000g paper just to see where i am, its easy to be fooled from a lighter scratch almost masking a darker deeper scratch

the reason i choose 3m emery cloth wet back is it lasts so much longer than regular paper back.

I usually start with 220. And add 400 and 800 in there. I haven't been able to find anything over 1000.
    We have assumed control !

Try Orchard Supply and Hardware. All the ones I go to have a huge sandpaper inventory.

Orchard is a California chain and not available in Florida. However, Wal-Mart generally carries up to 2000 grit 3-M wet/dry in their automotive department. If you don't find what your looking for there, try your local automotive supply stores. They will probably have the higher grits that you are looking for.

I go to pep-boys. They have a full selection of wet/dry papers up to 2K. Though I'm sure any automotive store will carry it.

@ Outlaw, it looks like you have a good grit progression going on.
