Thread: CHEAP USB microscope

I purchased this for my son, no really. I have no need for a microscope.

Here is the website. It is a 1.3mp 200x magnification scope for $78 US shipped. It takes a week to get here from Hong Kong, but it is well worth it. It has better software for PC than MAC. If you have a MAC, it may not be worth the trouble. I really did not play with it last night to see how well it works on edges with a MAC, but my wife took the kids to beach yesterday and they picked up a bunch of stuff to look at. They found a little shrimp and brought it home. The scope got so close you could see the small worm parasites eating the dead shrimp. It zoomed real close on sand, I just have not looked at the edge magnification on a MAC.

The PC software actually allows you more control so I am pretty sure that you can look at the edges with this on a PC. I'll test that a little more too.

If you need the MAC software there is a link on the page for a review by ZDnet they have a link to the software. The Software also works on 10.4.11.

So here is the scope and notice the distance from the coin? About 3" maybe 4"



Here is a pic of the coin from that distance. Now if you had something closer it may work better. Like I said, I have not had a chance to play with it.



BTW those were from the MAC review with the crappy software. Although they were using the newest version 10.5.6 and I am using 10.4.11.

Gorilla Pod sold separately, it does come with a little metal stand though.

BTW - I'm so glad I got into Str8 shaving so I would save all that money on disposable razors. I looked all my stuff and by doing a little math I figure If I don't buy anything else I'll start saving money in 2023. LOL JK I love this hobby!!!

I don't know if these are of similar quality, but the price is right for someone who just wants to mess around.
