Default A Teutonic approach to cleaning the pivot area

    1. Grab razor.
    2. Gently remove pin, breaking scales in process.
    3. Swear blasphemously.
    4. Clean pivot area
    5. Start looking for spare scales.

Anyone got a spare set of scales for a Pauls Brothers "Echo" 5/8 French point?

I feel your pain. I'm very familiar with steps 1-4. Especially those wonderfully thin and brittle black bakelite scales. Oh how I love steps 1-4. Did I mention that even though I like the look of them, I hate bakelite scales for that reason?

Ahhhh...so that explains it. Must have been my German blood coming out in me! Though with the swearing, I would have sworn it was the Irish.

You have my sympathy for the broken scales, but my wife and I got a chuckle out of your post. Thanks for posting.
