I actually got a very nice brushed finish using, oddly enough, a brush. I found that if I loaded a brass wire brush with oil, and put it on a low speed in my rotary, I could achieve a decent matte finish. I will take some practice to get right, but I think I'll be able to get there...

I use greaseless compounds just like Dan the man and finish with a medium cut compound for a few seconds.
The Oz also does some nice work.

I use one of those Scotch Brite type abrasive belts for my belt grinder. It works like a charm.

Thanked: 85I also use the scotch brite belts, but you can buy scotch brite wheels for bench grinders too.
