Thanked: 2Where to buy spare scales? vendors or SRP members
Where can I get some spare scales for some restoration projects? I have some nice razors that I am going to restore and need to find a good source for some scales. I don't mind buying them from vendors. I like supporting people who make things themselves so if you make scales let me know.

Thanked: 156Well, since the thread exists already...
Anyone have a source for scales for $10 or under? Or anyone want to make some extra cash? Don't have to be pretty, just plain looking and not ugly. Not keeping my hopes up, but worth a shot.

Thanked: 13247I don't want to come off sounding wrong here, but I seriously doubt you are going to find any hand made scales for anywhere near that price point...
There is just to much work involved with making them....
The material cost is negligible, it is the time and talent cost to get them to fit right that brings the price up....
You could check e-bay for razors with crap blades and put in a ton of $8 bids and score some that way....

Thanked: 156I do too Glen. But its worth a shot.
A better shot in the dark would be if someone who does a lot of rescaling keeps those old scales and has no use for them. Thats what I'm really hoping for.

I've been trying to find a way to sell nice scales in this price range, but so far (like Glen said) to make a nice set is taking more hours than $10 can buy. The compromise I'm looking at is setting up my equipment to do everything the average Joe can't- cutting blanks, sanding to shape, drilling, cutting the wedge, and then leaving the finishing to the recipient.
If I were to do this, would anyone be interested? I'd be working mostly in North American hardwoods- red and white oak (plain or quarter-sawn), walnut, cherry, maple (tiger or otherwise).... at least for large scale blank production.

I'm new but I'm already looking at restoring razozs so I'm interested not just in old or cheap scales but also in new and maybe custom (I have a couple of ideas for myself). I'm looking where to go so all info is a plus.
Yes Benjamin I would be interested. I could finish them the way I want, I like that.Last edited by ENUF2; 06-21-2009 at 11:56 AM.
