Hey if you are able to cast a mold, I would imagine that you would have a nice set of scales. Love to see the completed work.

Thanked: 3795That is an excellent point. For some odd reason some of the ebay collectors, who I fear have never actually used a straight, seem to prefer the unique scales in garbage blades.
If you want the scales, unpin it.
If you want to preserve the design, I love the idea of making a mold.
If you want money, follow Philadelph's advice.

I always like my lobster with lemon and butter.
Give that blade a little bit longer and it may come out on its own.

Thanked: 1While making a cast seems like a good idea at first, I am against it. Next thing you know there will be copies flooding the market and destroying the collectible value of those few that exist. Same for selling it on eBay... it would be in China in a day...
Will need to think on it...
Thanks for everyone's comments!!!!!!!

Thanked: 10I don't know about anyone else but I think the lobsters are kinda cool. You really don't see many new razors with scales that unique

While we have CNC machines at my workplace, I posted a thread about designing scales in CAD software and using a 3D printer to print the design:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...s-printer.html
Had several people say "That's awesome, I can whip something up in CAD" but alas, nobody sent me any files to use.If you can draw crustacean scales in CAD, I can print them.
Side-note: why are these scales coveted by collectors? They're flippin' hideous (IMHO). I sent a Morley with the reed-patterned scales out to be rescaled. I've read that the reed pattern is common and the lobster is rare, but still.

Thanked: 402Ah ok, now I remember!
Its probably the style alone. Fitting images onto objects goes probably back to some ancient ivory carvings. Hence the color.

I'm with Olivia. Mold 'em. But to your point, and Alex's, I might alter the casts so they're obviously not originals. If you cast em in clear resin, it'd be pretty obvious they weren't original.
You could even mold them as is, complete with the blade, then clean em up and put the original on ebay. Would be an extra step or two to get to your copy blanks, but might be worth it. I'd love a Lobster set. Be willing to help with the molding if you changed your mind.
