My first succesful restoration
In this thread, I want to present two razors, I completely restored.
Both razors were in extreme bad condition, with severe rust on the blade and broken scales. I know, mirror polished blades are quite popular in his forum, but I don't do so with my blades. One reason is, I have no Dremel, all work was done by hand (each 1 week), and the other reason is, that I think, a few stains here and there are no shame for an old razor. I love the work of Maximilian and the other skilled resto-pros, but for me, some marks of age just belong to a vintage blade:
As said before, all work done by hand, as good as it gets. Especially the Butler is very hollow ground, removing the pitting to a higher degree would have destroyed the blade.
Plastic replacement scales were bought at theinvisbleedge.co.uk
Hope you enjoy my work. Positive and negative feedback always welcome!

Very nice work you've done. Also think the old ladies should carry the signs of their age with pride IMHO. Where did you find the scale material (bone?/acrylic?) for the razors?

Excellent work I too like to see old razors with their battle scars if they have had a hard life. I think that you have done a great job on both razors and I hope that they shave well for you.

Thanks for your comments!
This restoration is not the work of a master but I am quite happy with the result. I agree with you, razors should carry their "scars" with pride
Indeed they shave well, although both blades were a PITA to hone.
The steel is extremely hard, both blades smile lightly. I needed three attempts for the Butler and two for the Kabrand. They all got shave ready at the first attempt, but not to my complete satisfaction.
The Kabrand took a scary sharp edge: Clening the bevel by wiping off the blade on my underarm (spine leading!!) I nicked my skin badly. I wonder how that happened
@Sailor:
Here's a linke to scales. (I don't know, if posting links directly into shops
is allowed in this forum, so please remove, if it is against the rules)
Razor Scales & Pin kits
The scales are made of plastic. I would have liked wooden scales better, but they are not availabe in 6/8" size. Glad, a set of pins and locking collars came with them. BTW, the scales easily fit a 7/8" blade, too

Happy and proud you should be. There's only so much one can do when using only his hands. It's all about having fun and it should not be a competition as to who has the nicest razor. Take pride in what you have achieved and done. It's well deserved.
Thanks for sharing.
