Thanked: 25Razor roll
I picked up a large piece of glove leather at the swap meet and would like to sew up a razor roll. Does any one happen to have a pattern for one so I do not waste it experimenting.

I make mine 13 x17 inc piece with 4.5 inch pockets. I would suggest you use some felt, flannel or heavy cotton fabric to line this with though.

Thanked: 25Can you draw a pattern? Do you think it would be better to use fabric instead of leather?

It is just a large rectangle you shouldn't need a pattern, Just a ruler and a marker or some sort of writing utensil that would show up on the material. Lining the leather is fine. or using just fabric material is ok too. I use fabric myself. Cut one piece of leather, one lining fabric. put what you want to show facing each other on the inside. sew around the long sides and one of the short sides. turn inside out then hem the last short side. Turn short side up 4-4 1/2 inches. and sew on sides. I measure out 1 1/2 inch pockets and sew . Tack a piece of ribbon or cording about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom. Put in your razors. fold over the excess at the top. roll and tie..
If you get in a bind, let me know you can send me the leather and I can put one together for you

Thanked: 25Good explanation I see the case will be about 12" x 13" when sawn and the flap folded and has ten pockets. I have just come from the fabric store with the esentials.

Thanked: 25Carrie I just completed one roll in leather and cotton flannel liner. The leather is to much for my skill level. With cloth I could pin the seams ect. When you make the roll how many layers and what cloth do you use? I have 2/3's yard left of the flannel. If you want to make a leather roll I will send you the other piece for your trouble.

PIC HEAVY
Here's what I got - I took an old chisel roll sitting around the basement doing nothing - I chose not to do a flap as I prefer the least amount of excessive material to keep the roll from getting bulky. My intention is to add a large grommet to the flap so I can just pull the roll in with me and hang on the bathroom wall when I want my choice of what to shave with that day.
The sleeves on the bottom are a bit wider than the ones up top and are much better 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 is perfect IMO - it allows room for larger razors as well as if you notice, you will see paper sleeves in each sleeve - that is acid free anti rust paper that generally ships with handtools or other highly rust material. It has worked thus far at keeping the leather from have direct contact with the razor, can be hidden in the sleeve and is easily replaceable.
Sorry for the junk photos - a photographer I am not.

I usually use a cotton twill for the outside and then a flannel or velvet piece for the lining. Leather is a bit tougher to work with. The only other option is to use seam binding at the edges, but that is really fussy to work with. If you want to send me the other pieces I will be more than happy to put one together for you.

Andy, that's a nice design. Let me know how well that works for you once you get a grommet in it to hang.

Thanks Carrie - I certainly will post pics - The flaws I see are this:
- six slots instead of seven
- all the pockets should be about 1 1/2 - 1 3/4
- Having only a set amount of slots restricts the number of razors that can be acquired right now
- I need to actually stitch in the leather wrap that is used to tie the roll up
