    Thanks holli4 - this follows my original inclination.

    The razor does not have any hone wear and I wonder if it has ever shaved. I must take care of that! This razor was made to be used, not sit in some display case and it has fallen to me to make sure that happens.

    It appears it had been "played with" some and stored poorly during its life. It had some red paint or fingernail polish on it when I got it. The missing piece from the tang would not keep it from functioning as a shaver I know, but that somehow feels like driving around a classic car all buffed out missing a fender.
