Thanks for posting a pic of these larry!
I found a couple of places that sell them (discount-tools.com is the cheapest that I found)
the places that I found only had discs ranging from 60grit to 320grit, nothing finer.

For now I think I will just punch some out of existing discs that I already have, but I am also looking at getting some Micro-Mesh since grit ranges are from 60µ - 1µ. (these sheets may be good for honing too!)

I see that you have a 15µ adhesive disc backing pictured, any idea where these come from?

Once I get these then all I will need is about $50 worth of radial/bristle discs from Bill and I should be golden!

Sorry for highjacking your post, I just got excited when I heard of these, and saw how good a job you were able to do with them!

    Thanks!
    Zak

What will you use for a punch?

I got mine from Bill, but they are in Rio Grande Tools catalog.

I cut about a 2" long section of 1" I.D. pipe. I used my bench grinder followed by a file to sharpen a chisel edge around the outside circumference of one end.
A good whack on the unsharpened end easily punched the sharpened side through a stack of 6 psa discs - I also used it to cut out about 20 - 1" discs of leather.

Now I need to get busy finding some more nasty scratched up, tarnished razors so I can put all of this new stuff into use!

Let everyone know what you used to back up the material you put holes in. Wood? Rubber? Concrete? The back of little brother's head?
For backing I just used a piece of scrap 2X6 sitting on my workbench. the 2X6 is soft enough not to damage the edge of the punch once it cuts through the material.

By the way, I got about 19 - 1" discs out of each 6" disc that I punched holes through. The 6" psa discs cost roughly $0.60 each, so that puts the cost of each 1" disc at just over $0.03 each - this is considerably cheaper than the pre sized versions.

I was also thinking about punching some wet/dry sand paper and using 3m spray disc adhesive to attach these discs - or even better, some of the psa film from handamerican - this would allow for a greater variation in grit choices.

Well I finished this blade. I took the scales of and repinned it (my first try). I rebeveled it with my 220 Japanese waterstone which is slower cutting than you might think. I got a nice smooth edge under 200x and am ready to start shave honing it. Thanks for all the input guys.

Beautiful job. I just finished restoreing a DD satinedge, not as high polished as yours, but a great shaver.
