Thanked: 1936I made my first ivory scales a few months ago and boy is it sweet to work with. Your scales look good & I hope you find a suitable blade for them soon...good luck!

I'm surprised you cut into it before having the blade thats going into them... it would be a shame if your dream blade didn't fit the way you wanted / or didn't fit aesthetically with the shape...
I guess it is a fairly classic shape, so you'll be safe... But,... I hope it works out lol.

yeah im with you on this old school, i love ivory as a material but i would never collect ivory (i love chinese art and there is ALOT of ivory there) or choose ivory over mammoth ivory, i think it mammoth ivory also has interesting grain and colours as well from iron and copper in the soil, it will be my first choice when i get ivory scales... don't get me wrong nice aesthetics wise there is nothing quite as beautiful as great ivory and these are really beautiful scales, i just could never justify using ivory over mammoth personally.

Thanked: 14Thanks a lot! Before I started I told myself "Take your time with these". It seemed to have helped going slow and being patient. With wood scales I always tend to rush it a little because I know I can just go get another blank for ~ $2.00. My wallet couldn't risk losing these . I had a fair amount left over for future projects too!

Wow nice job 2knives.
Looks like you have some left over for some nice horn scales with ivory inlay.
