Yeah you're right. We have some special honey reasons to celebrate the start of the summer here in Turku. Sorry. Little OT, but the winter season with our Black Death seems to last here a bit longer here than there in capitol area.

Never give up..
I MUST continue hone my Narva project. Thank you Sailor for your encourage words.
I made PROPERLY bread knifing. It was 6/8 but now it is 5,5/8. I made few times test x-strokes with permanent marker bitween the bread knifing. Lastly there was coming nice and straight shiny line along the blade on the both side. Then I knew I had removed warped part of the blade and it was done. It is quite lot of metal what I must remove to achieve good and straight shiny line at the bevel.
I have lapped my 400 grit stone. I will today start to make the bewel. I hope I can make it at this time. Atleast I have now good feeling about this, maybe I am now on the right track.
The blade width was narrowing from 6/8 to 5,5/8 (19 mm to 17,5mm). It is now 92 procent from the original size. Do I hone the spine also narrower without taping the spine while honing? The spine is now 4.6 mm, so 4,6*0.92=4,2 mm would be the new width of the spine. Is this calculation right, if we want to maintain original bewel angle?

Nice to hear that your project goes on strongly!
Imho the bevel angle doesn't change that much to matter whether you tape the spine or not. At least i wouldn't try to narrow the spine by honing it. It is the final sharpness that counts, not the bevel angle (unless you want to hi-fi with it). I hope and know you get more and better opinions from more experienced persons from this site.
You can calculate the bevel angle with simple maths. From the school days you remember to start with Archimedes triangle to get the proper measures and sin, tan and cos to find out the true bevel angle, if you really think such info is necessary (pls PM if you want help with these). I would tape the spine to prevent more hone wear but it is up to you. If you tape it now, you will have to tape it every time you hone it in the future.
Funny. Last week i did some nice purchases from the local temporary flea market (i made another thread on 'Show & tell), and today i had to get back there again to pick up few more oldies i didn't notice last time.
There was almost similar Waldmin 'Narva' razor (without blade etchings), just waiting for someone to pick it up, as well as several Swedish blades.
Pls let us hear how your project goes on. You've worked with it for so long that i think you will really enjoy the shaves it will give you in the future after so long and teaching process.

Ok, I will use the tape on the spine. There are a lot of metal to remove until the bewel is set. But honing continues...
That is a good hint, I have too go to the local temporary flea market. Maybe in Hietsu I can find some treasures :-)

Here we go again...
This knife have rested couple of months. It is time to continue mess with this..
Watched gssixguns honing video on video section and I get inspirated. So I have honed this Narva with the 1K Naniwa several hours. I mean a lot with any different strokes. And have done some strokes with 400 grit stone too. The last time I gave up with this I could not understand how much metal must be removed after bread knifing technique. So now the bevel starts to form, but there is still work to do.
Have used the 400 grit stone as lapping stone. When having this kind of marathon you must lap or just clean the stone frequently because it is loosing its abrasiveness. The stones surface is full of removed metal and is getting slippery. When done some strokes it is like new and having its quality back. The difference is significant.
I did not used a tape on the spine. Have to test how it feels to hone it without a tape.
I think here is also some progress on my technique, I hope so
I have watched some honing videos where the honer had the stone crosswise and it looked awful. So I have tested different angles how to keep the stone and this crosswise feels quite ok. I have to test it later again. Maybe some diagonal angel or so is best, at the moment.
Dunno if I can get this knife sharp never. The bevel is not even or straight, it has waves. I think it is ill-treated or something. But I will continue honing and then we will see if it works.
