Default Using metal polisher on straights

    Hi,
Is it a good idea to use metal polisher on straight razors? Thanks.

You can use Maas(metal polisher)it is highly recommended,in fact i use it often myself to clean off water spots, oxidation and minor scratches. This stuff is great. And a lot of the members on this forum use it as well.

If you go to the workshop forum where you posted this question there is a 'sticky' thread on everything you always wanted to know but were afraid to ask. Here it is here. I'm assuming by metal polisher you mean a buffer ? If it is just metal polish on a paper towel you're talking about that is fine if there is no gold wash. It will take that right off.

I was already considering buying maas polisher

Would this one be good enough for straight restoration or should I get the one in tube:

Its all the same stuff, just different size containers. So it just depends on how much you need..!

A little Maas or any other metal polish goes a long way, but it has uses on many other things as well. I wouldn't recommend a large tub. Be careful when working on a blade (noticed your post count and don't know your experience) as that edge will "bite" you if you aren't careful. I've cut myself on quite a few "dull" razors, but only nicked myself on sharp ones...go figure.

I bought a can of Semichrome (similar stuff) like that and wish I would have stuck with the tube. Unless you use it a heck of a lot the tubed variety stays moist while the stuff in the can will tend to dry out on you.

How much would I need to polish 2 straight razors?

A tube would last you years if you only used it occasionally. A few dabs, spread with a Q-tip or your fingertip. Let it set for a few minutes and wipe with a paper towel. IME it will only take off so much and no more so a couple of applications and the effectiveness is maxed out. To do more will take buffing but you might get it all with one application, the paper towel and elbow grease. Depends on the depth and severity of the tarnish.

I bought a tube and have cleaned up several straights & safety razors. It's great if you just want to shine up something the has waterspots or is hazed. Nice product. Is it the same as Fitz?
