Default Replacing Rubber Tang Grip on EPBD

I recently bought a really beautiful EPBD on the Classifieds (this one was even restored by Max), but I just noticed that there is a tiny, tiny tear right on the edge of the rubber tang grip. I don't think there's anything to worry about for now, but it made me think about maybe replacing the rubber tang grip with something a little more durable, like silicone rubber tubing or something similar.

Does anyone have any experience in replacing these little tang grips and, if so, what has or has not worked for you? Thanks!

Anything you put on there will hide water & trap it. The only blade I've had with one on is my Bergischer Löwe & I removed it. My Filly had had it's taken off by a previous owner.
Since it's out of the original scales already, consider removing it. Other than that, try to keep the water off the tang, & possibly something that will displace the water without eating the grip.

Oh, forgot to say, very nice indeed. Max does some great work.

Yea, I thought about just cutting the thing off, but Max actually carved the scales specifically so that they would accomodate the thickness of the rubber grip, so it would look a little strange without some kind of grip there.

I thought if I could replace the grip with something that has a really, really perfect fit, like surgical tubing or something like that, that would help with the rust issue. What do you think?

Maybe Max knows what to do!

I'd try putting a thin coat of rubber cement under both ends, all the way around. Maybe applied with a toothpick. I will should stop the rip from gettting bigger, and will probably stop water from getting under it.

Two issues can arise with any of the rubber grips used for handles. It tears or it can completely loosen up with use and age. So far I haven't seen any EPBD with the rubber removed. I've seen a few Bergischer Löwe that had theirs removed. I wouldn't know of anything that would match the original and or at least look aesthetically good. I would suggest using some waterproof epoxy and make sure the tear gets sealed. I spray mine once in a while with silicone spray to preserve the rubber. Also replacing the grip with another one would mean dismantling the razor from the scales.

Mine has, Max. The jimps continue top & bottom & you'd never know it was there, except for the slight relief in the original scales to allow for it.

Can you post us a picture? I'd love to see how it looks.

Does anyone know where to get a replacement BL grip? It might fit the EPBD.

Of course. Bad light, worse photographer!
As you can see, it's far from NOS, but it is shiny, & in far better nick than the photo's imply.

Contact Dovo? The shank on the BL is far smaller than the EPBD, but if warmed you may get it on. It'll still trap water though.
