Default Temperite rescale(not sure what the wood is)

So, I've not been around here for a long time now(too many other responsibilities) but I thought I would post this up as I decided to put together a quick set of scales for a temperite blade I had lying around.
The scales are made of laminated wood veneers (as most of my scales have been) as I have a huge bag full of various veneers, and it is a quick and easy way to put together scales with a minimal number of tools.

I have had the blade and the veneer for ages and never got around to doing it but this weekend gave me a couple of hours to give it a go.

My question to anyone who knows wood - what is this veneer?

I apologise for the poor pictures - I couldn't get the camera to focus properly and the colour is quite pale(it is much pinker than is shown).

Reminds me of the maple you get on guitar tops. It might be that?

Newb here (been lurking and learning), but I think I can help with this one.

That looks like either "quilted", or "curly" maple.

Here's a piece (quilted) I recently picked up.

Still haven't figured out how to tell the difference between the two, and the guy at WoodLab seemed to agree with me when I mentioned it to him.

    ETA:
Here's a couple of some of the same piece after cutting down and stabilized, then sanded with 100 grit.

I would also have put it down as maple but it really is a distinct mauve colour that I have never seen in maple.

The only thing I can find is this -
Craft Supplies : The Home of Wood-turning!

It is a man made veneer, what I have really looks and feels like wood so I'm not so sure

Looks a lot like what I have heard called Bird's Eye Maple, though the samples I've seen don't usually tend toward mauve.

It's not birds eye - that has much tighter figures in it

Does not look like a maple. Could be a very light pink ivory but I have never seen one with that kind of figuring. Could be Madrone burl but that is more tan. Carob is another that has a pink tint.

Could it be a curly purpleheart?
